In the spring and fall, the woods around the paved entrance road are home to White-eyed Vireos, Gray Catbirds, Prairie Warblers, Yellow Breasted Chats, and Indigo Buntings. The west side of the road is also a prime spot for Chuck-will’s-widows, Whip-poor-wills, and Eastern Screech-Owls. The park is also a launching point for the Ten Islands State Nature Trail, a self-guided, 2.5-mile walking tour that focuses on historic and natural features.
