What to Expect in a Malibu Wine Tour
When you go on a Malibu wine tour, you want to make sure that you have a great time. And that you get to see some of the best vineyards in Los Angeles County.
Luckily, there are a few wineries in the area that offer tasting rooms. These are not as popular as the larger wine regions of Napa and Santa Ynez, but they are still a worthwhile stop during your Malibu adventure.
Rosenthal Winery
Rosenthal Winery is one of the most popular and renowned wineries in Malibu. The tasting room is situated right by the shore and offers a romantic view of the beach as you sample their wide variety of wines.
The property itself is home to a 27-acre vineyard which is tucked high in the hills of Malibu at elevations ranging from 1,400 to 1,800 feet above sea level, above the coastal fog. Its terroir is perfect for growing world-class Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties.
Located along the Pacific Coast Highway, this modern Malibu winery is a fantastic place to enjoy some delicious chardonnay or rose wine while enjoying a breathtaking view of the ocean and surrounding hills. The staff here are friendly and knowledgeable about the various wines they have on offer.
This Malibu winery also hosts concerts for a range of genres, including jazz and blues. Their live music events are a great way to spend an evening and can be enjoyed outside on the spacious patio with a pleasant sea breeze.
As a family-owned and operated business, the Rosenthals are very much a part of their community. They are involved in local organizations, such as the Lake County Farm Bureau and Planning Commission. They also hold several positions on the Lake County Winegrape Commission and are active participants in numerous community events, such as fundraisers for cancer research.
They have a tasting room that is open from 12:00 to 19:00 on weekdays and 11:00 to 20:00 on weekends and holidays. They accept cash and credit cards.
The Rosenthals produce a number of wines under their own label, which you can find at many LA restaurants and in some of Hollywood’s top hotels. They have a second label, called Surfrider, that helps support local charities that help protect the ocean and beaches.
When you come here, make sure to try the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a limited release and is a rich and extracted wine with plenty of dark cherry, black raspberry, plumb and exotic spices on the long, supple finish.
In addition to their extensive selection of wines, the Rosenthal Winery also serves delicious foods. They have a selection of pizza and pasta as well as a few other tasty dishes that will complement the wine you choose to try. They also offer some special offers for their customers so it’s worth taking advantage of them.
Cielo Farms
Cielo Farms is a family owned and operated vineyard with an amazing wine tasting experience. Located in Malibu, it sits on 30 acres with incredible views of the Santa Monica Mountains.
The winery’s ambiance is serene and rustic, with the stone barn as the focal point of the venue. You’ll find plenty of picnic tables around the barn area and you can enjoy sweeping views of the vineyards below.
You’ll be able to sample a selection of 20 wines, including their Cielo Estate and Woodstock Collection wines. These include full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon and a variety of white wines made from Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscat varietals.
This family run vineyard has been producing wine since 1999, making it one of the best places in Malibu to go for a relaxing and peaceful wine tasting. It’s also a great place to bring the entire family.
It’s important to note that this winery does require appointments to visit, so make sure to get your schedule set in advance. This way you’ll be able to taste the most wines while enjoying the beautiful views.
In addition to the wine tasting experience, Cielo Farms offers a yoga and mindfulness meditation class for visitors. This is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon, especially if you’re looking for a new way to unwind and relax.
The restaurant at this winery is a great place to grab a bite while you enjoy the views. The menu features sandwiches and a cheese and charcuterie plate, and they serve a variety of wines as well.
If you’re looking for a more intimate experience, the winery’s event space can be booked for weddings and special events. The property can hold up to 200 guests, and they will work with you to ensure your day is perfect.
For a truly memorable wedding experience, you can’t do better than this gorgeous property. It’s set atop a hill overlooking the Santa Monica Mountains and is the perfect venue for a California dream wedding.
This rustic ranch-style venue is a popular choice among Malibu brides and grooms. It has a lot to offer, from stunning panoramic views of the Santa Monica Mountains to breathtaking sunsets. They have a dedicated wedding coordinator on staff to ensure you have the most enjoyable and unforgettable wedding day.
Cornell Winery & Tasting Room
If you’re looking for an authentic wine experience with a Western twist, look no further than Cornell Winery & Tasting Room. It’s a unique and charming tasting room that’s focused on honoring local mountain producers, and you can try their self-guided three wine flights with logo-ed glasses (or order a meal from the restaurant next door).
It’s a short drive along Kanan Road to get to Cornell Winery, but it’s well worth the journey. The rustic building looks like something you might find in an old West movie. It’s surrounded by vineyards and a large lawn, where you can sit and sip the wines of your choice.
Inside, the winery’s curated collection features boutique local Coastal producers from LA to the Central Coast, with a focus on the Santa Monica Mountains. You’ll find some 50+ pieces of art by local artists, artisanal edibles and even some kitschy wine gadgets (we recommend getting one).
The tasting room also has a curated list of local beer and cider. The winery is open seven days a week and offers tours, a special Friday night karaoke and Sunday yoga and mimosas.
Founded by actor Tom Runyon in 1970, the Old Place has a unique character that’s hard to miss. Its weathered wood walls and porch are reminiscent of a frontier saloon, with a 20-foot bar and five booths that seat up to eight. It’s a great spot to hang out with friends and enjoy some delicious wine, but don’t forget to grab a bite to eat at The Old Place Restaurant next door.
The vineyards that produce the grapes for this winery are spread across the Santa Monica Mountains. You’ll see some of the most stunning landscapes in Los Angeles as you walk around the property, and it’s a great place to relax and unwind after your tour. If you’re looking for a more adventurous tour, you can take the Malibu Wine Safari, which combines a trip to the vineyard with a zoo tour and the chance to feed giraffes, water buffalo and zebras.
Malibu Wine Safari
Malibu Wine Safari is a popular day trip that attracts visitors throughout the year. This wine tour involves getting into a jeep and driving around the 1,000-acre Saddlerock Ranch and Vineyard to experience the scenery, animals and of course a tasting of some delicious wines.
The most popular tours include the Explorer and the Giraffe tour that allows guests to feed Stanley the giraffe, but there are several other options as well. Some of these tours are a little more expensive than others, but you can also buy a variety of tickets and try different ones as you like.
I recommend this tour for families and people who want to have a unique experience and see animals up close. The guides are very fun and knowledgeable. They make you laugh and are super informative on the animal life, the history of the land, and the wine that is made there. They also let you take photos and they have some great locations to take them as well!
There are a lot of tours available so it’s best to plan ahead and get there early so you can get the exact tour that you want. You can do a wine tour, a giraffe tour, or a wine and safari combo.
We took a 90 minute Explorer tour and Gabby, our guide, did a great job of explaining the land and the animals on the property as well as giving us some background on the family that owns it (spoiler alert: they are incredibly wealthy). She told us about the filming locations at the property, the famous weddings held there, and also walked us through the famous art installation on the property.
Our tour included 6 wines and some small bites that went perfectly with our tastings. We had a great time and we would definitely do it again!
The Safari is a great way to spend an afternoon, especially if you are looking for a fun experience with friends or family. We recommend going on a tour of the property and the safari.
While I enjoyed the safari, it is a very pricey tour and it may not be for everyone. I think if you are looking for a different type of winery visit, it is worth trying out other wineries in the area.
